Research Experience
- The current use of ultrasound to measure skeletal muscle and its ability to predict clinical outcomes.
I was involved as a second reviewer in systematic review about the ultrasound measures in skeletal muscles ability to predict clinical outcomes. The review was part of bigger project related to the oesophagogastric cancer patient prehab project. I was second author on a paper published in the Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle (Impact Factor 12.5)
- COVID-19 Oesophagogastric Surgery safety project 2020
I have led a multicenter international study to examine the safety of oesophagogastric surgery during the peak of the COVID pandemic. This study contributed to my centre's change in practice and precautions.
This project led to two publications in Annals of Surgical Oncology (Impact Factor 5.3) and presentation at a national conference. (More details in the publication and presentation section)
- Emergency Giant Hiatus and diaphragmatic hernia project 2021
I have led a project to examine the outcomes of emergency and diaphragmatic, and giant hiatus hernia repairs. We have also looked at the risk prediction models dealing with these cases.
This project led to a few presentations at national and international conferences (details in the presentations section)
- Salford Osophageal Perforation project 2021
I have led a project to examine the management outcomes of oesophageal perforation patients. Again, we have looked at different risk prediction models that best predict mortality in oesophageal perforation.
This project led to a few presentations at national and international conferences (details in the presentations section)
- Collaborator in OGAA Project 2018
Oesophago-gastric anastomosis audit
I collected all the essential data that represented my centre in the project
This project was a multi-centre, international collaborative conducting research to improve the current evidence base in Oesophago-gastric cancer management.
This project led to a few publications (details in publications section)
- Master's Degree (MSc) in General Surgery 2013
Three-year training program with exams and thesis
Thesis topic: evaluating different modalities in the management of penetrating abdominal trauma in Kasr Alainy emergency department.
I have presented the results at the 20th Congress of Trauma and Emergency Surgery in Prague, Czech Republic. (Details in presentations section)

Honorary Research Fellow
Division of Cancer Sciences, University of Manchester
I am involved in multiple research projects with the University of Manchester, concentrating mainly on the impact of the COVID pandemic on the oesophagogastric cancer management and service. I am participating actively in medical student teaching and year 3 case writing.
